This is the most popular vista Copper Harbor has to offer. Signs point the way up Brockway Mountain Drive, just off to your left a short distance from the harbor. The absolutely spectacular drive shows the surrounding country, Lake Superior and the village to absolute perfection.
It is about 3.5 miles to the top from Copper Harbor. There are several pull-offs on the way up the mountain. At the peak, there's a small gift shop and a wonderful 360 degree view of the area. At this point you can go back to the harbor the way you came up. Or, you can do the circle tour and continue down the other side of the mountain about 7 miles back onto M-26 for a beautiful drive back to Copper Harbor along Lake Superior.
The top of the mountain is a superb spot for a sunset. Because of the darkness (no electricity up there) it is also an ideal spot for stargazing and catching the Aurora Borealis aka Northern Lights if they are making an appearance.
The drive opens in the spring when the snow is gone from the road and closes in late fall when it becomes part of the snowmobile trail system.
