Keweenaw's Migratory Bird Festival in Copper Harbor

Saturday, May 11th ~ Official International Migratory Bird Day

3:00 pm - Northwoods Wildlife Center program "Birds of Prey"
Unique adaptations help these special birds hunt and survive. Come learn about just a few. This is a fun program for the whole family. You will meet a few of their resident birds up close and personal. This program is about 1 hour and is made possible through guest donations. Held at the Grant Township Community Hall adjacent to the Copper Harbor Visitor Center.
Suggested donation $5.00 per person - kids free!

5:00 pm - Raptors of the Keweenaw - Dinner & Show with Photographer Vic Berardi
Held at the Tamarack Inn, corner of US-41 and 6th at the blinker light. Come anytime between 5:00 and 5:30 to enjoy a delicious dinner of Whitefish, chicken or lasagna complete with beverage and dessert. Feel free to bring your own beer or a bottle of wine for dinner.
Immediately following, Vic will give a photo presentation of the raptors migrating over Brockway Mountain. Enjoy his stunning photos and learn about these amazing birds of prey. Cost is $15.00 to benefit Brockway Mountain Hawk Watch.

Start your planning now for a full weekend of riding Keweenaw singletrack. Group rides will be hosted at Michigan Tech, Churning Rapids and Swedetown plus additional rides and events in Copper Harbor. Details to follow....

7:00 pm - Manitou Island & Isle Royale Bird Surveys with Joseph Youngman
This presentation will feature an update to the long running Manitou Island Bird Survey as well as the newest water bird study on Passage Island, Isle Royale National Park. Along with new data and interesting findings, Joe will share many beautiful images of the islands.

7:00 am - Birds and Bugs Field Trip: Estivant Pines Nature Sanctuary
Join Joseph Youngman and Lynn Murphy for a fun and interesting trip through the Estivant Pines. A Michigan Nature Association event.
Meet at the E Pines trailhead.  To get there, follow US 41 north to the blinking light at Copper Harbor and turn right, go 4 blocks and turn right on 2nd Street at the Community Center and sign for Lake Manganese.  Follow 2nd Street (also called Manganese Road) for 1.2 miles, bearing left onto Clark Mine Road (dirt road). Travel 1.2 miles and turn right  by the pond and then a quick right onto Burma Road. Travel another .65 miles to the trailhead and parking area.

Join Fort Wilkins Historic
State Park on Memorial Day to commemorate U.S. Soldiers who have died while in Military Service. The event will occur on the parade grounds and will include a memorial day address, musical tribute by Mel Jones, program from the Copper harbor School children and the presentation of colors by the Marine Corps League.
